Present and future of electronic identification in Europe

The European Commission has launched a report entitled “National approaches to eID in Europe” the report makes an exhaustive review of the strategies of the member states for the deployment of electronic identification in the services provided by public and private entities in their territories to make the procedures safer and more efficient. The report dedicates a section to each of the 27 members, describing the bodies, regulations, technologies and tools for eID.

In general, all countries are involved in deployment processes, they are obliged to do so. Some in more advanced stages, either because they have started these processes earlier, or because they have started the process allocating large resources and based on the successful cases of other member states, while others are still in the initial stages, but aware of the advantages that it supposes for the entities and above all for the citizens.

The European Commission is working on the launch of new measures to accelerate the deployment of technologies and make the environment homogeneous and ultimately indifferent, for a European citizen who needs to carry out a procedure, or access a service, the place where you are within the European territory.
